Regina Tavares da Silva was President of the Commission for Equality and Women's Rights (Portugal), of the Steering Committee for Equality of Women and Men of the Council of Europe and of the Advisory Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men of the European Commission. She was also a member of CEDAW (Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women) of the United Nations, the Advisory Committee of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities of the Council of Europe and the Forum of Experts of EIGE (European Institute for Gender Equality).
She has worked as an expert on missions for the United Nations (DAW, OHCHR, UNECE, UNICEF, UNIFEM), the Council of Europe, the European Commission and the OSCE.
