This project was funded by the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) and coordinated by Maria José Magalhães.
Its main institution was União Mulheres Alternativa e Resposta (UMAR) and had University of Erlangen-Nürnberg’s Institute for Empirical Sociological Research, Fundação para os Direitos das Mulheres and CIEG as its partners.
The project’s overall objective was to improve the institutional response by identifying the gaps within and between law and practice when providing justice to victims of femicide. Specifically, Improve legal responses to counter femicide aimed: To improve investigation and prosecution in cases of femicide To strengthen the role and rights of victims in criminal proceedings and ensure their access to reparation To examine the impact of COVID-19 on institutional responses to femicide.
